Tomorrow is a big day for us Americans. A day that will determine the future of our nation. A day that brings a lot of anxiety and dread along with it. Election day. its key to remember we are not only voting for one person but for their policies and their team's values.
This year, like four years ago seems so daunting and scary. But as Christians
there are some things we need to keep in mind when voting. God provided His
word for us as a guide on how to live and it is truly applicable to the voting
process too! So, let’s get into it!
Loving each other
John 13:35
Your love for one another will
prove to the world that you are my disciples.
1 John 3:23
And this is his commandment: We
must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just
as he commanded us.
Matthew 22
37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love
the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38
This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 A second is equally important:
‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
40 The entire law and all the
demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”
These verses tell us that as
Christian’s we are to love each other. This means despite our differences. Four
and eight years ago, the two main parties were very hateful towards each other
before and after the election and this year will be no different on the whole but
we as individuals can choose kindness despite the outcome. Don’t say hateful
things about the party you are not in.
Being set apart
As Followers of Christ, we are called
to be set apart from the world and its choices. When the world is making bad
choices we have to stand in the gap and make the better choices.
Colossians 3
12 Since God chose you to be the
holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy,
kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
13 Make allowance for each other’s
faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so
you must forgive others.
14 Above all, clothe yourselves
with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
15 And let the peace that comes
from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body, you are called to
live in peace. And always be thankful.
16 Let the message about Christ,
in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the
wisdom he gives.
Ephesians 2:10
For we are God’s masterpiece. He
has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned
for us long ago.
Matthew 7
13 “You can enter God’s Kingdom
only through the narrow gate. The highway to Hell is broad, and its gate is
wide for the many who choose that way.
14 But the gateway to life is very
narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.
Sanctity of Life
Genesis 1
27 So God created human beings in
his own image. In the image of God, he created them; male and female he created
them.
Psalm 139:13–18
13 You made all the delicate,
inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 Thank you for making me so
wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
15 You watched me as I was being
formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16 You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.
17 How precious are your thoughts
about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!
18 I can’t even count them; they
outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!
How incredible that the Maker of
the galaxies, the oceans, mountains and valleys, volcanoes and canyons made us
with such care and intention! Every single detail about you and every other
life was hand crafted and He thought you were good enough to keep. That is so
precious and beautiful!
I don’t normally speak on my personal views on the lgbt+ community and I’m not going to now, but one thing I will say is I think it must break God’s heart to see children choosing to get physically altering surgeries. With or without parental consent. Kids aren’t fully developed enough (mentally or physically) to make such life altering decisions. They need to be protected from toxic drugs and surgeries until they are old enough to choose that fully understanding the repercussions. Not told who they were made to be isn't good enough.
I know one of the biggest
debates in this election is the topic of ab0rt!on. The verses above prove that
God values that life no matter how small...He made life after all. We are
called as Christians to protect those who cannot protect themselves. There are
exceptions to the laws against such a procedure in many states and that is
great but also its not our right to take anyone else’s life.
Corruption & False
Teachings
There is a ton of this going
around these days. Words get twisted and religion is used as a weapon against
us, so it’s always good to be aware of what’s true and know how to spot the
wolves in sheep’s clothing. you can always tell by a person's actions if they are legitimate or not. Are they treating others with respect? Are they protecting the weak? Are they slandering their opponent? Are they implementing Christian values? There is no denying that there is corruption within our government. Now is the time to get back on track!
Ecclesiastes 3:16-22
"I also noticed that under
the sun there is evil in the courtroom. Yes, even the courts of law are
corrupt!"
1 Timothy 4
1 Now the Holy Spirit tells us
clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they
will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.
2 These people are hypocrites and
liars, and their consciences are dead.
Matthew 7:15
“Beware of false prophets who come
disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves.
I want to close out with this simple statement.
As Christians, this world is NOT our home. We are ambassadors of The Kingdom of God. Meaning we should hold fast to biblical values and principles and not be swayed by pretty lies and the venom this world is spewing. So, do your research on policies and laws these candidates want to put into place then go out and vote how Jesus would want us to.
